StoryTree gains funding

JAMARR’s StoryTree project was given some merry news just ahead of the holidays. A grant application under the Regional Arts Development program (RADF) which is adminstered by Mareeba Shire Council.

The grant will provide funds for employing a young person who will assist with the editing of video footage that the interview team has been capturing this past year.

RADF Committee Chair, Cr Angela Toppin, noted that she was very pleased with the distribution of funds across the Shire, and recognised the good work undertaken by the community.

StoryTree’s interview team currently includes Gerda Domen, Tanya Jenkins, and Lenore Wyatt. Lenore, who also serves as a Mareeba Shire Councillor, was present at the meeting that approved the RADF funding. She is keen on the StoryTree concept and invites anyone interested in either contributing an interview or helping out with the project to get in touch.

The StoryTree is a multi-faceted process for capturing and celebrating local history in the Julatten and Mount Molloy area. It includes audio/video interviews, archival research (led by Lindsay Fisher), cemetery records, intepretive signage, and a regional Visitors’ Guide.
