Friends of Mount Molloy Cemetery
The Mount Molloy Cemetery is the final resting place of nearly 300 family, friends, and historical figures who have shaped our community and region.
The Cemetery is managed by Mareeba Shire Council to acceptable standard. There are maintenance and amenity improvements that go beyond the basics, and a group of locals are coming together to make a difference.
Inspired by Cr Lenore Wyatt’s presentations at JAMARR meetings, local markets, and in coffee shop conversations, the idea is to form a “Friends of Molloy Cemetery”. The Friends will gather and plan out what they wish to achieve over the coming years.
Local powerhouse Alan (Nevo) Neven has put his hand up to help coordinate the group.
Nevo’s first task will be to organise for an improved version of the Honour Roll. The current version has become damaged by a water leak in the frame.
“We will ask the Men’s Shed to give us a hand with an improved frame, and JAMARR is completely re-doing the poster so that we can run it from a database and invite people to review records online.”
There are other plans for improvement too, and the Friends are keen to make a bit of progress steady-steady, one step at a time.
